The Eden Prairie Fire Department operates four fire stations with a staff of 95 paid on-call firefighters and nine full-time firefighters.
To help promote safety and fire prevention in the community, the Eden Prairie Fire Department educates businesses and residents with ongoing safety programs, such as the HeartSafe Eden Prairie automatic external defibrillator (AED) campaign and its citywide fire inspection initiative.
In 2007, the Eden Prairie Fire Department received nearly 1,100 calls. Last year, 29 percent of the calls received were false alarms, down from 45 percent just a few years ago. The time involved in responding to false alarms potentially takes firefighters away from real emergencies. The Fire Department is always working to reduce the number of false alarms.
The Fire Department continuously works to maintain its ranks of 95 paid on-call firefighters. Men and women living or working within seven minutes of an Eden Prairie Fire Station are encouraged to apply. The Fire Department looks for individuals who are in reasonable physical shape and 18 years or older. Details of the ongoing recruiting process can be found in the Firefighter Recruiting area of this Web site.
